Introduced in Japan in 1970, Yamaha R5 350 ccis
one of the first street and race bikes made by Yamaha. The production
of this model started as a natural evolution from YR3, which had
only single-cylinder engine. The R5 350 Yamaha motorcycle, or sometimes called YR5, in contrast has 2-stroke
parallel twin air-cooled engines and piston-port induction intake system. It also has
only 5 gear transmission, and same as other early 70’s Yamaha motorcycles, it
has oil injection and drum brakes. The most popular was the 1972 Yamaha 350 R5 C model, which has been superseded by RD250 & RD350.
If you are looking to identify
your model, the correct serial number is usually located on both the engine as
well as the frame.
