The two-stroke Yamaha R5 350cc is
one of the first Street and Racing motorcycles made by Yamaha. The production
of this model started in early 1970s as a natural evolution from YR3, which had
only single-cylinder engine. The R5, or sometimes called YR5, in contrast has twin two-stroke
parallel air-cooled engines and piston-port induction intake system. It also has
only 5 gear transmission, and same as other early 70’s Yamaha motorcycles, it
has oil injection and drum brakes. The R5 has been superseded by RD250 &RD350.
If you are looking to identify
your model, the correct serial number is usually located on both the engine as
well as the frame.
